The coach was scheduled to take anyone who wanted back to Government Camp for supper in a local bar and grill, the evening meal today being “on your own.” We opted to skip that outing and to skip the eating all together, feeling a bit too well fed. Instead we headed west on the Pacific Coast Trail which crosses between the lodge and the Palmer Snow Field behind the lodge. There, at a point where we’d moved beyond the ski lifts and other signs of resort life and could see more west than south, we sat and watched the sun go down. I'd like to think that last layer of horizon is the Coast Range way off in the distance, but I suspect it's actually a cloud bank.
